I Hope This Works

I found out last week that my MIL is going to drive down from Colorado to spend Bobblehead's birthday with us so I need to take my vacation time the 2nd week of October to keep her company. AND she is staying with us instead of the hotel she promised us she would stay at the last time she mentioned the visit.

Nice to find out on short notice. At least it isn't going to be a surprise visit this time.

Well, since I am going to be out of my mind because I have so much deep cleaning to do since she is staying with us I am not going to have time to plan Bobblehead's birthday party.

So she can plan it. And if my mom wants to pout about it, she can plan a separate party. And if FIL and Step-MIL want to act the same, they can plan a separate party too. Screw it. I am not dealing with the bitching this year.

No one can even seem to fake getting along with each other. They couldn't even be in the hospital together after Bobblehead was born. Their visits had to be almost scheduled so they wouldn't accidentally run into each other.

My plan will probably backfire on me somehow but I refuse to be stuck in the middle of all the bitching and dirty looks and talking behind backs.

I just want to sit back, chase kids around, get drunk and enjoy a party for a change.

Another Earth?

I read this MSN.com article Earth's Twin. It was really interesting.

A quick summary: Scientists are really close (like 5 or so years) to finding a planet that is supposedly exactly like Earth. They have already found 3 "super Earths". Which basically means that the planets are bigger than our Earth but small enough to have mountains. Scientists have already found multiple Jupiters and Saturns and are close to having the technology to find smaller planets like Uranus and Neptune.

Taken from the article: "We are looking for twins of the Earth, analogs that walk and talk and smell like our own Earth," Marcy said during a telephone interview. He is currently looking for super-Earths using the W.M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii.

Such a twin would be rocky, with a similar chemical composition to Earth, and would orbit within the habitable zone of its star.

The habitable zone defines the distance at which a planet must orbit from its star for liquid water to exist on its surface — not too hot like Venus, not too cold like Neptune or Pluto.

Astronomers have found planets orbiting pretty close to the habitable zone, but none so far within it.

"I suspect there are Earth-like planets with lakes and rivers and waterfalls and deep glacial gorges and that are spectacularly beautiful," Marcy said.

Finding a planet in the habitable zone is the first step toward finding alien life.

"When we say it's a habitable world, all we're doing is saying it potentially could hold life," Boss said. "To go beyond that to say, 'Here's a habitable world; is it inhabited,' then you need to start studying the atmosphere of the planet."

Ok, science lesson over.

This seriously freaks me out. Maybe I have ready too many Stephen King or Dean Koonce stories and watched too many Sci-Fi movies. Maybe? Hell, probably.

I think we need to leave the other planets alone. Messing with "alien life" is only asking for problems. I don't see things turning out well.

Its like poking a strange dog through the fence. You might get bitten, you might not. It really isn't a chance that I am willing to take.

And for anyone who is thinking "Oh but we could use the other planet's natural resources", stop right there. Why even consider destroying another planet? We have done enough damage on our OWN planet.

Extreme Thinness Banned

Taken from MSN.com~~Madrid Fashion Week banned too-skinny models. So did New York Fashion Week. And now, France wants to ban promoting extreme thinness. Ultrathin models, it seems, have fallen out of style.

According to an article I found: In Italy, authorities and fashion designers last month adopted guidelines banning models if they do not meet a body mass index equivalent to 55 kilos (121 pounds) for someone measuring 1.75 meters (five foot seven). I would be tall enough to model in Italy but not heavy enough. Five foot 7 and 121 lbs. Now that is healthier than 5 foot 7 and 96 lbs (Which I have been, before EACH pregnancy.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am a skinny chick. I have been my entire life. I have also struggled with my self-esteem, well the lack of self-esteem actually. Wanna hear what I think about this? Of course you do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It is about damn time! I think it is great news. I hope that this will help change how people see beauty. You dont have to be thin to be beautiful. I am thrilled that the fashion people have finally realized that beautiful people come in all shapes and sizes.

Eating disorders are not sexy. They are life threatening diseases. What is sexy about seeing hip bones and ribs and sunken in faces? What is hot about taking laxatives or sticking your finger down your throat? I cant speak for anyone else, but I think it is gross, not attractive.

And it isnt just women that are suffering from these diseases. Men battle Anorexia and Bullemia too. If you dont believe me, google Male Eating Disorder Statistics. You will be shocked.

I will be the first to admit that I could stand to gain a few pounds. I like my after baby body (except for the stretch marks and saggy skin) because I finally have some curves. I look and feel healthy. After I had Monk Man, I managed to keep some of the weight on for about a year. I am not sure about after I had Bobblehead. He is 6 months old and I have yet to step on a scale. (Too scared to.)

Ultimate Fighting Tots

Check this out. I found it on msn.com

This is one of the few sports I can actually sit down and enjoy watching with Hub. I know a couple of lesser known Ultimate Fighters that live in our town. They are people I went to school with. We grew up together.

That being said, I would never let the Monk Man be an Ultimate Fighter at his age. He lacks the understanding of ANY kind of sport. But, when and if he decides that this is the kind of sport he wants to pursue, then I will support him 100%. Hopefully this wont be decided until he has finished growing. But if it happens before I want it to, then so be it. Not a big deal to me.

Sure, there are risks involved. But there are also risks playing football, or baseball, or hell, even walking in your house! Especially with our rampant clumsy gene.

There are also great lessons to be learned from Ultimate Fighting or MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Discipline is a big one. Being able to defend yourself from someone else is another lesson.

So, if the Monk Man (or Bobblehead) wants to be an Ultimate Fighter, I will support his decision. I will be at every match. I will be his biggest fan.
